Aris Elijah Pugal Foundation

Meet Our Team

Our Story

On the evening of September 4, 2010, just three days before turning 21, Aris Elijah Pugal (aka "AJ") was shot by a 19-year-old gang member in a Mira Mesa neighborhood. Sadly, AJ died on-the-scene. He was a very loving, intelligent, and God-fearing young man. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and was simply a victim of wrongdoings by a misguided teenager. Nevertheless, AJ's loved ones surrendered to God's sovereignty over his life that tragic night.

After two years of grieving for the unexpected loss of their son, Abdon and Mayette Pugal, was inspired to start a foundation in honor of AJ. Through many prayers and dedication, Aris Elijah Pugal Foundation (AEPF) was formed in March 6, 2013 and received its 501(c)(3) status on July 3, 2014.

AJ left a great legacy for his fellow youths to emulate. He encouraged many of his peers to dream big and take action on those dreams — that they should go after their goals and aspirations no matter the circumstances leaving them with his inspring words, "There is no limit, for the limit is infinite!"

Therefore, it is our desire to continue his legacy and create a positive social impact through this foundation. The AEPF Board of Directors would like to encourage you to partner with us on this great cause. All current BODs are volunteers and proceeds received will be awarded by donating scholarships or sponsorhips to qualified students, schools and organizations, as well as supporting law enforcement or programs to prevent youths from participating in crime and gang violence in the local communities and beyond.

Our Mission

To empower and support our youth in creative pursuit and higher education towards a brighter future through guidance, mentorship and opportunities.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create an empowered generation of youths that are confident in becoming citizens and scholars.
